Vacant Site Store Design
Location: Ground Floor Melbourne CentralJust a small selection of my Incu Store Design
Brief:
This was our last major assignment for our Store Design and commercial lighting class. We had to design a store, any store, to fit the vacant site at the time situated in Melbourne Central. This could be a made up store or a pre existing store but could not match the fit out and design of any current ones if you were to choose a pre existing one. I chose to do mine for Incu, a pre-existing store found in Sydney and Melbourne. In melbourne there are two Incu stores - one for women, one for men so i decided to use this vacant site to combine the sexes and design a store for both genders.
For the assignment, we researched all elements from current stock, graphics, Melbourne Central guidelines, comparative retailers, lighting, spacial and humar factors, materials and finishesand most importantly the vacant site itself and then come up with an innovative design that remained true to the brand or chosen store. From that, there was a design solution which of course took some time. Rough sketches were drawn and then I took it to the computer and used Googles SketchUp to create a realistic version of the store. Within the design solution, everything from sound and smell to new graphics and materials were thought about as well as spacial factors and retail guidelines.
Many techinical drawings were also drawn up to ensure the design was realistic and made certain that the space was used correctly and that if it were to be a design in the real work force that it would be adaptable to the vacant site.
